The first Black Ball Riesling to be released in a number of years. The wine is fully-dry in a classically 'atypical' Pearl Morissette style and has been fermented and aged in a combination of concrete and foudres.
A wine of suave structure and tautness, with vibrant fruit and rich, layered mouthfeel. Salinity, spice and luminous summer fruit weave through the palate in unison and glide into a finish of smoothness, purity and resonating power.
Vinification & Élevage: 2017 Cuveé Black Ball is 100% Riesling sourced from our 19th street vineyard on Twenty Mile Bench. It was harvested on October 26th, 29th, and 30th, hand sorted and whole-bunch pressed.
Fermentation by indigenous yeast proceeded steadily in a combination of concrete (61%) and old foudres (39%) and completed by early spring 2018. The wine was left to age in its fermentation vessels, without battonage for a total of 20 months. 2017 Riesling Cuveé Black Ball was bottled un-fined and unfiltered on September 18th, 2019.
